Chuggin' Along

We had doctor appointment numbero dos on Friday and everything is looking good! All my tests were normal. Other than that, they pretty much just weigh you (not my favorite part) and ask if you have any questions. I did get to hear the heartbeat and my mind suddenly changed that I think we're having a boy. Now I'm REALLY confused. While there's no reliable correlation between the whole heart rate thing and gender thing, I just got a feeling it was a boy when I heard the heart beating. Great, now I don't even know what to guess! In a couple more, short weeks, we shall know for sure!

Big news here at the Refuge! We've finally decided to start our herd and we're expecting Baby Pugh in August!! We're super excited and pretty much super terrified at the same time! Ha ha ha! We are currently just over three months along and anxiously awaiting finding out what we're having. Jared is really crossing his fingers for a boy, but I think it's going to be a girl. We'll see.....camo or PINK camo?!

How whack is it that I have been a total blog slacker? For, like, a loooong time! October?! Really?! I apologize to any of you still out there in blogdom. So, what's new? We hit up Disneyland the first of November with Jared's parents and had a BLAST! It was like a big kid trip!
Thanksgiving came and went as Thanksgivings do. Jared's grandma passed away and we got to spend some quality time with the WHOLE family that week. It was sad, but I came away overall feeling really grateful family in general.
Then, my nephew, Shay, came home from his mission in Boston, MA. It was a regular Griswold shindig at the airport and we all bawled our eyes out.
We had an AWESOME Christmas around The Refuge. I got a gun, Jared got a guitar. Surprise, surprise, eh? We've just been enjoying this mild winter weather we've been having. I was missing the snow around Christmas time, but I've kind of decided I'm okay with this. Other than the $800 in snow tires I have sitting in my garage waiting for the first flake to fly. I'm pretty sure, though, come about March, we are going to get POUNDED and spring won't begin until about.....well, we'll just skip spring and summer should begin around August.
These days, we're recovering from the holidays and all the over-eating. Thankfully, I managed to only gain 2 pounds, though I was sure it was more like 22 lbs! I've been trying to cut my caffeine habit to help combat my current weight loss plateau, but it's kicking my butt. I REALLY, REALLY need (what I really mean is - LIKE) my Diet Pepsi in the morning. So, as spring approaches, or maybe the snow, I'll try to be better about keeping you posted!

Just in Time for Halloween

It's been a rough couple weeks around The Pugh Refuge.....at least for Roxy. About 2 weeks ago, she got in to some mouse poison at our cabin. Luckily, I saw her with it, and our awesome vet told us the trick to make her barf. Worked like a charm and up came the poison. However, that stuff is designed to slowly kill mice, so you really don't know what damage is done for days. So, we took her to the vet to be safe. They gave her a hefty shot of Vitamin K to counteract the de-clotting properties of the pesticide and put her on Vitamin K pills for two weeks.
Then, yesterday, she was out playing in the hay field behind our house, like she does EVERY DAY, and when she came back she was all torn up. I think she had a fight with the barbed wire fence. She has a cut across her face, under her nose from one side to the other. And she had this baby......

So, the doc said he could patch her up, no problem. Enter the shaver. She got a pretty big patch of hair shaved off, the wound cleaned and a local anesthesia - which she LOVED. But, she only yiped once when the doctor stuck the needle right in the middle of that thing! OUCH! So, two stitches and 5 staples later, she's all patched up. Turns out she got her Halloween costume just in time....... FRANKEN-DOG!!

Cupcake Wars!

For my family's Halloween party this year, we decided to have our own version of Cupcake Wars. If you haven't seen this show on Food Network, you should. Teams compete to make crazy cupcakes with mandatory ingredients and a theme. We didn't require any specific mandatory ingredient, but everyone came up with some recipes on their own. We also didn't require a specific decoration, but we just went with the creepy/Halloween theme. I must say, that all the cupcakes turned out so AWESOME! Each team/family slightly "dressed" up to show that they were a cohesive team. For our team, Jared and I had black aprons that said "Cupcake Army" and digital camo trim. We also both wore digital camo hats and jeans. That was as complicated as our costume got. Each team had to present their cupcakes in a gross, descriptive presentation detailing what they were made of and how they were decorated. We even had awards for different categories. Granted, pretty much everyone won some category or the other, but it was still fun. We all came with our cupcakes baked, but un-decorated. Then we had a timed decorating contest. Thirty minutes to adorn and dress our cupcakes. Here's some pics of how things turned out.
These are our Mountain Dew cupcakes. We decorated them to look like eyeballs and filled them with green colored lemon pudding. We posted a radioactive logo in front of ours because the filling looked something like uranium and these could have been the third eyeballs people might grow when exposed to crazy chemicals.
This is the whole spread. I didn't get close ups of every cupcake, but you get the idea. Lots of eyeballs, fingers, zombie teeth, monsters and bats! Everyone came up with original cupcakes from peppermint patty brownie cupcakes with Cool Whip frosting, to oatmeal/Reese's peanut butter cup cupcakes and pumpkin spice cakes!These were one of my sister's family cupcakes. Their spread was called, "Calling All Monsters." That brown one in the front is a werewolf, but you can't really see his face from this angle. They had some really creative fillings like oreos, gummy worms, sour cherry and cinnamon!

Yep, you guessed right........I have made more bracelets. I started playing around with elastic cord bracelets at my last bracelet session with some of the girls. Pretty simple, yet totally awesome! They make GREAT additions to the large, beaded bracelets for a "stacked" look. Here are two very simple ones I made in about, oh, uh, 30 seconds each.
I made this one from beads I found at Michael's. They were having a big sale on lots of their different bead lines, so I got a few. I LOVE this bracelet and think I will probably reproduce it for sale, if any of y'all are interested. Leave me a comment. I think they will sell for about $20. Most of the beads are metal, so it's a bulkier, heavier bracelet.

Then, I've been experimenting with the whole "subway art" idea and this is the first piece I've "offically made." I created it on my computer, using Word, and then used scrapbook paper to matte it in a frame. I sanded the frame because I personally like the distressed look. I added the gerber daisy because this is for my niece for a gift and I thought it just added to the "girly-ness" of it. Pretty happy with how it turned out. Clearly, I dont know all the tips and tricks, but I've also learned that you don't learn those tips and tricks until you try something and it DOESN'T work. Then you improvise.

I also just discovered Mod Podge Dimensional Magic. The possibilities with this stuff are ENDLESS! I feel some magnets, keychains and charms coming in my future. As I explore the stuff, you can be sure I will post my successes (and my failures) for you to enjoy!

When The Cat's Away, The Mice Will Play

Jared went on a deer hunting expedition this weekend to help a friend with a CWMU tag, so I "killed" my own kind of time by crafting again. With the upcoming "Widow's Weekend" I thought maybe this would give some of you ideas for something to do if your man is a hunter.
First, I painted, then decorated these wooden letteres from The Wood Connection:

I got this idea from Pinterest (sort of) and actually made my version come to fruition over the weekend. I wanted a Halloween wreath, but finding a black wreath proved harder than I thought it would at Halloween time. Below is the pic of the wreath I saw on Pinterest, then below that, is a quick step-by-step of how I made mine:

I started with a 24" green wreath and a can of Black Indoor/Outdoor Gloss Krylon spray paint. I just chose Gloss because I didn't know WHAT to choose and I thought a little shine on the pine needles would look cool in black. Sorry it's hard to see the wreath, but I sprayed it outside in a field behind our house to avoid overspray getting on anything.

I also spray painted some silver sequin picks that I got at Michael's to add a different texture to the wreath. They are the stick looking things you can see sticking out of the wreath below. I also added some orange berries that I attached with a glue gun. The "EEK" letters are just the cardboard/pressboard ones from any craft store. I painted them and Mod Podged them with scrapbook paper. I hot glued floral wire to the back to wire them around the wreath. And finally, some Halloween colored flowers make the wreath more "cute" than "scary".

The next day I found these spiders and just thought they'd make a cute addition so I added two to my wreath for fun.

The next craft was another experiment with Mod Podge transfers I talked about a post or two ago. I'm finally getting the hang of it I think. This is just a wooden square that I got at Michael's and painted. I put my mirror image saying on the wood with Mod Podge and let dry. I removed the paper by rubbing with a wet cloth. Then I painted over my saying again with a light coating of white acrylic paint for a weathered look. I then sanded the corners and edges and even right over the saying to create "streaks" and "scratches." (No, I did not make the star OR the shelf, but I wish!)

Apothecary Jars & Mod Podge Mania

The craft bug strikes again! Last night I finally completed my apothecary jar collection to make a spooky Halloween candy display. Hobby Lobby has all their glassware on sale for 50% off right now! I found some free printable labels online and it all came together.

I used a stamp pad to "antique" the edges of my lables and also printed them on tan cardstock to look old and worn. Then I smudged a little of the stamp pad ink on the lable in places to also make them look dirty. Then, just fill with the candy of your choice! So easy! I think I'm in to the spread with the jars and the two "fake" candles I added for about $30. But, I'm planning to just rotate the labels and candy and use the jars for other holidays as well! I added the candles for effect and because they're cute. They are battery operated and they really flicker like real candles. I had the little jack-o-lantern and the witch hats & brooms, so I just added them. I'm thinking I just need some spider webs to complete the look.

Then, not in Halloween mode anymore, I made an "everyday" craft. I went a little crazy with the Mod Podge since it could be my favorite new thing. I think it would probably double as an awesome hair pomade if you really needed it to! I "Mod Podged" some scrapbook paper on to these inboxes for my cubicle at work. Pretty simple, but makes a dull, gray inbox look a lot more fun!

The Girl is Crafty Like Ice is Cold

I have really taken to this "crafting" thing and turns out, I CAN do it, believe it or not. Pinterest is the source of most of my inspiration, well, the source of my copy-cat-ness. But hey, we're not reinventing the wheel here. I made a couple more crafts last night, more as a test to just see if I could. And I did. Yep! And I'm pretty darn pleased with the results. First, my halloween craft is my favorite of the two from yesterday. It was soooo easy and I'm more than pleased with the result.
Here's the scoop:
I printed the Keep Calm & Carry Garlic "sign" from the internet. I used the photo printing wizard on my computer to print it in just the size I wanted (8X10). I found this frame at Michael's on sale for $5.99. It is an 11X13 frame, matted down to an 8X10. I used the matte that came with the frame to cut scrapbook paper to cover the matte. I didn't actually glue the paper on to the matte, but you certainly could. I found everything fit tightly enough in the frame to stay in place without the additional step. I then put the scrapbook paper in the frame first (next to the glass), then the matte, then my garlic picture and put the back on. 1 - 2 - and DONE! It gives the picture a nice layered look, so that it looks much nice than just paper in a frame. So easy! I just might make a picture for every holiday and just rotate them in and out of the frame because it was so easy!

Next, I have been wrestling with the whole "subway sign" art thing because I'm finding myself incredibly limited by my Cricut. You have own a bunch of cartridges to get different fonts and at $40-$80 a pop, cartridges are not a feasible option. I can't cut vinyl in enough different fonts for my liking, but I CAN use my computer and have an endless supply of fonts. So, I explored the wonderous world wide web and learned about Mod Podge transfers. (Thanks to the endless blogs out there that explain it, step by step, for crafting dummies like me!) You create your image, word or picture on your computer (I used Word for simplicity & ease) and print it on regular old printer paper. BUT, you have to print your image as a "mirror image." Basically, so it's backwards on your paper. I chose to make a small sign using a 5X5 block of wood from Michael's. I painted it the color I wanted (well, sort of. My color didn't turn out quite as planned) then let it get good and dry. Then I cut around the phrase I had printed out so there was very little "extra" paper around my words. Like so:

When my block was dry, I painted Mod Podge over the area where I wanted to stick my phrase. I made sure it was a nice, smooth coat and there weren't any big globs, but I don't know that you have to do that. I made sure everything was smooth and pressed on good and firm. I took extra care to especially smooth and press down on the letters. Then I just walked away and let that dry for a while.

When I came back to it, I took a wet wash cloth (fairly wet, but not sopping & dripping) and started VERY GENTLY rubbing the paper that was stuck to my block. You have to be very careful and not press too hard, or you will rub the letters right off your block. This will happen a little bit anyway, but I think that's what makes them look cool. They look worn and rustic that way. One blogger suggested that if you want your letters perfect, take care rubbing off the paper, then fill in the cracks and spaces with a Sharpie. I did a little of this, but still wanted my sign to look worn. I haven't sanded the corners or edges of mine yet to make it look even more worn, but I will. This was my first attempt, so I just thought I'd share my experience for those of you considering trying it. YOU CAN DO IT.

Our BRAND NEW floors are finally all done! They turned out awesome! The cutting out of the old floor was NOT awesome, and left sawdust all over our house, but the floors were worth it. Plus, I had a cleaning crew come on Saturday and they did EVERYTHING, top to bottom and more! This is the pile of old carpet and old vinyl floor that came out..... And finally, here are the pics of the new floors! This is before we got everything moved back in (obviously!), but they look spectacular! Thanks to all of you that helped us get furniture in or out or BOTH! We appreciate it!

That is exactly why I'm just tearing mine out! Ha ha ha! Okay, not really. But we are tearing them out to get new wood floors today! Yay! I can't tell you how happy I will be to be rid of carpet! Of course, our upstairs will still be carpeted, but our main, high traffic areas will be a breeze to keep clean! My family doesn't really do presents or parties for birthdays for us anymore now that we're "all grown up" and moved out. We get a birthday dinner with my parents at a restaurant of our choice. I'm brainstorming to my parents over the weekend, thinking Outback Steakhouse, Carver's Steakhouse, or Texas Roadhouse. Then my dad says, "How about La Caille?" This was not even on my radar, but I wasn't going to turn it down! Jared had never been, so we decided that would be the place! We had an absolutely awesome time and Jared LOVED the food! He was convinced he was going to be served tiny, little portions of food way too weird to eat. For appetizers, we got the french onion soup and I a stuffed portabello mushroom. Jared got the filet mignon and I got the ahi tuna for our entrees. I had the arugula, beet & goat cheese salad and Jared got the butter lettuce, apples & walnut salad. Then for dessert, we tried out the La Caille trio of creme brulee, chantilly chocolate cake and beignets with custard. YUM, YUM, DOODLE DUM!! Happy Birthday, to me! I think my favorite was the creme brulee and I would NEVER pick that if I were anywhere else. While we were there, it started thundering and lightning then started to rain. We were seated just inside the patio by the french doors, so we watched the rain and felt the cool breeze as it poured outside. It was soooo fun! So, here's a few pics from the adventure! We will definitely be going back!

I could have the coolest co-workers in the whole world! Wait, not "could"....I do! When I arrived at work today, this little gem (literally) greeted me! A couple of weeks ago, my friend Kylie and I, hit Michael's for a few craft items. Their halloween stuff was out in full force and I fell in love with this. Hello! It's a skull AND it's sequined, how could you NOT love it?! Well, we ventured back yesterday and apparently someone was pretty sneaky while we were in the store! So, now, my desk and cubicle have been elevated one level of office awesomeness because of this guy. THANKS, Kylie! I LOVE IT!

I realized that I haven't really posted very much about the adventures we've been having over here at the Pugh Refuge lately. We've had a busy winter, spring and (so far) summer, but I've been slacking big time on taking pictures! So, these are OLD, but here's just a smidge of what we've been up to and I promise to take more pics!

In May we headed to Idaho (You-da-ho?) for a bear hunt for Jare. We had an absolute blast and Jare got just what he wanted- a bear with a white chevron!

This slideshow is the Stadium of Fire this year. We got to see the MAN himself, Mr. Brad Paisley! We love going to Brad because he always puts on such an awesome show! The fireworks and low light setting weren't too friendly with my camera, but you get the idea!

Mid-July, Jared and I headed out to Ohio to visit the Snarrdvarks! We hit a "Professional Car" show.....which mostly consisted of old ambulances and hearses. A little weird, but cool! We also went to this really fun island out on Lake Eerie, called Put-In-Bay. You ride a big, fast ferry boat called The Jet Express out to the island. You rent golf carts to ride around the island! There's a cave (kind of like Timpanogos Cave), mini-golf, go-karts, a butterfly house, swimming, bars galore and fun places to eat. We spent the day chilling out there and had a blast! Jared and Vince went fishing for Walleye on Lake Eerie that morning and caught a bunch! They had a great time and had a great catch to bring back!

Then, just recently, the ol' gang got back together (well, most of them) and played for a wedding! It was awesome to hear them play again and have Ty sing. Hopefully there will be more "shows" to come!

My bracelet obsession is still going as I look for new beads and new "danglers" to adorn them with. I found a really cool line called "Industrial Chic" at Michael's and I have a whole new set of bracelets planned already! The second picture features some of the Industrial Chic charms I found on my last visit.

These two are the latest on my learning curve:

The picture doesn't really do justice to the colors in the above bracelet. It is a more muted/brassy bracelet with greens and yellow and "tarnished" looking silvers, but I think it turned out really cool.

I don't think the pictures really do either of them much justice, but maybe I just need a new backdrop......and I need to stop taking the pics on my cell phone!

Though I haven't really tried it yet, I've found that old jewelry can sometimes be hiding the coolest beads. Amid the gaudy, old or "grandma" looking bracelets and necklaces are hidden gems of beads that can be cut off and re-used to make something awesome! Re-purposing beads from old jewelry also gives me a new reason to stop at yard sales more often. Hopefully my next creation will be something re-purposed!

Here are a couple more of my creations.....I love the skull one! But, who is that surprising, right?! I'll admit, the single strand bracelet is not my best work. Maybe because it was made from left over beads from a bracelet I chopped apart because I never really liked it much anyway. Ha ha ha!

But, have no fear! I am headed to the craft store again today to find a new bead motif for the next masterpiece. If any of y'all in blog-land have any ideas for something cool you think would look good on a bracelet, please leave a comment! I'd love to experiment as I explore this world of jewelry making!

"Leaf" Me to My Business

I made another gee whiz bracelet last night and learned how to "dangle" things off the main strand. I also got started on my very first keychain. Sooo, keychains are WAAAAAY harder than bracelets and you have to have some twisty skills that I have yet to polish. Ciera is teaching me though, and I'll post pics when it's completed. Yep, it has a skull on it, too. Anyway, here's bracelet #3. I included some close ups of a couple of the sections so you can see the cooler beads better.

I Feel the Need to Bead

My awesome niece started making bracelets and keychains...not really sure when, but I started noticing them. Her mom had one, she made one for grandma, so we decided to have a bracelet party and all make them. We all went and picked out our own beads, which is WAAAAY harder than it sounds. There are a bajillion zillion beads in this world I discovered. Some of us chose totally random beads that all went on the same bracelet to make it kind of whimsical and fun. I couldn't narrow down to JUST the coolest beads, so I had to pick a colors scheme and limit myself that way. So, I started with zebra because I'd found a really cool zebra bead, then added purple, then found a skull, which OF COURSE, had to go on my bracelet, too. So, here is my handiwork- I still ended up with a few too many beads, so I made two bracelets. More to come this week....I'm headed back to the bead store!

This weekend we took off on a bear hunting excursion to Idaho! It was awesome! We did the whole bait thing, hauled in donuts, dog food, etc and waited to see what would happen. The baits started getting hit, so then it was time to sit and wait for dark....and a bear. We saw TONS of elk, some deer, a coyote, a snake, Ruffed and Blue grouse, and LOTS and LOTS of wolf tracks and sign. Too bad the big, bad wolf didn't present himself!
Saturday night a bear finally graced our bait pile with it's presence!! I am proud to say that I spotted the bear and was the "eyes" of the operation until the bear moved to where Jared could lay the smack down with my ol' .300 Short Mag.
His bear ended up going just over 5 feet and was probably 150-175 pounds. Not a huge bear, but pretty big (from what we hear) for an Idaho sow (and NO, she didn't have cubs. She was a dry sow).

I'm sure you've all heard the stellar news about that low-life Osama Bin Laden, and I couldn't be happier. But, instead of dwelling MORE on him, I wanted to send a shout out to all the armed forces, firemen, policemen, intelligence officers, etc that brought about this event and got us through 9/11. Should have known it would be the good ol' Navy Seals....never count those boys out. I just wish I had pictures........I can hear their conversations now.

I just learned that New Kids on the Block AND Backstreet Boys are joining forces to create the ultimate boy band and going out on tour. I may have flash back to the early nineties (1990 or 1991, I believe) and attend my second NKOTB concert. I was a little too old for the Backstreet Boys when they hit the scene, but there should be some good dancing nonetheless.
I just need to borrow someone's 8-10 year old daughter to go with me. Or just round up the girlies and make an entire event of it so we all look like the creepy-middle-aged-women-that-will-still-scream-for-our-teen-heartthrob, together. It's less creepy that way......or maybe we just tell ourselves that. Guess our hearthrobs are middle-aged as well........ If I had my NKOTB sleeping bag we could have a slumber party before, too!
I'm gonna have to bust out my NKOTB neon t-shirt, earrings, NKOTB scrunchie and necklace and brush up on my Step By Step dance moves. Now where did I put my Donnie barbie doll?

This weekend will mark SIX years that Jared and I have been married! Holy cow, how time flies when you're having fun, but at the same time, it seems like we've just been together forever. Guess that's how it should be. Sometimes you wonder why you had to waste all that time before you just found each other and got on with it! So is life. This weekend marks the kick off of our turkey hunt. I have never hunted turkeys before, so about all I know is that we had a butt load of points and finally got tags. Wahoo! This lovely snowy weather we are having is going to make trudging through the woods for these freakin' things....well, nice. Apparently, everyone keeps saying they're hanging out at "The Snow Line," so at least I know the hike won't be far. While I am excited to get a turkey because they're AWESOME, I'm not so excited about the fact that Jared wants to mount his. Full strut. Their heads are so icky and I have yet to see a full body turkey mount where the head doesn't TOTALLY look painted and all too shiny. So, we'll see about that. I would like a tail fan on some old barn wood though. I do like those, but still our not-so-big house is rapidly filling up with more dead stuff than furniture. I love it when Jake's little boy comes over he can point in ALL directions are some dead thing or another. Deer! Swan! Goose! Pheasant! Antelope! Marlin! I guess we're doing something right at the Refuge, then! Can't have your blog description say, "We Spend Most of Our Time Hunting........The Rest We Just Waste" if it ain't true! Yeehaw!

Well here is how I'm going to "man" up this blog a little! It is that time of year again, time for me to spend every waking minute chasing big fish! So I figured I might as well kick 2011 off with a bang, here is a big ol' Salmon River Steelhead Buck (that's the males in Steelhead speak in case you were wondering) I finally caught a "B" run fish 34" inches long, 14" girth and between 13 and 15 lbs. He was a native fish so you're not even supposed to handle the fish out of the water, but it will be a cold day in hell for me to release a fish like that with out getting a picture first! You can tell the wild Steelhead by the Adipose fin (tear drop shaped fin located behind the Dorsal fin) they clip the Adipose fin off the Smolt before they release them back into the river. Well there's your marine biology lesson for the week, and its now getting to be Walleye season so hopefully in the next few weeks I'll be posting a pic of a fish with a few more teeth in it's mouth! Im looking for my first Marble Eye over 10lbs! Wish me luck! Like I always say, it's a tough life but someone's got to live it!

Today I have to tell you all about a sort of recent discovery I have made.....Zupas. I'll admit that I HATED it the first time I went there. I'm not the kind of girl that sits down and orders a half a salad for her meal. And no, I certainly DON'T want cranberries and corn in my salad and especially NOT together! Nor do I want lobster or salmon soup! Barf-o-rama! But, since starting WW, I've learned to love salad a little more than I used to because you can eat so much of everything on a salad for virtually no points. Not the dressings of course, but a salad can really help bulk up your meal to help you get (and feel) more full and less like you ate one soda cracker. And the REALLY good news is, that there's a Zupas very near my work....and I've already been there three times in a week! I had to sit down and actually read about their salads online before I could go, because I still think most of the salads are a little 'weird' for my liking. However, they are very good to customize your salad and leave off things you don't want or add things you DO want. Plus, the Wisconsin Cauliflower soup is to die for. I've gotten it two of the times because it's soooo tasty, but the new Chicken & White Bean Chili was super good, too. I'm thinking I should try the Mushroom Bisque next.

I get the Chicken Chop salad less the tomatoes and olives and I haven't yet dared branch out from that, but maybe someday. Like next week when I'm sure I'll go again! Anyway, totally random post today, but I had to share my new love for something I once really hated and would have complained about having to go to. :)

Well, things have been rapidly changing around The Refuge lately. I started my new job, which I'm loving, and now that Spring is "trying" to arrive, we're getting busy playing outside. Today is an exception, however, because this freakin' snow SUCKS! What the H? I get that we live in Utah and it can pretty much snow year round, BUT, it's not really supposed to stick as much as it has today. We're probably at about 200% of normal now so we're all gonna wash away when it goes from 30 degrees to 90 degrees. Oh well! It will be fun to watch 'Loch Ness' slowly disappear underwater. Ha ha ha!
So, Jared is up in Challis, ID fishing for steelhead this weekend. They did a late night turn an burn and arrived in Challis last night. They'll be spending 2 days (probably cold, rainy/snowy days) on the river trying to catch the B'' run fish. I think that's what they call them. I got a crash course in steelhead the other night. 'A' run fish are the small fish that have only gone out to the ocean one year and are now back in the river to spawn. 'B' run fish are the big fish that have gone to the ocean multiple years and are now "the big boys." I guess these are the ones you wanna catch. And the ones with some weird little fin behind their top dorsal fin.....well, they're the wild fish and are off limits. You can't even take those bad boys out of the water because they're protected for their highly desirable "wild" spawning genes. (Or something like that.)

A New Day in the Life......

Well, my first day at Cache Valley Electric has officially gone in the books. I had a great first day training with Emily! At least I know I'm going to be well taught, the rest is just up to me! I got to meet a lot of awesome people today and even got a couple free meals! One of our vendors took us out to lunch at Sushi Monster which was super tasty and super nice to boot! Then, after work, all of the ladies had a little party for Emily and we went out to dinner at La Frontera. I can see how much they're going to miss Emsizzle, and I'm even a little sad myself and I'm the one taking her job! But I know Em will be the best nurse ever! And I hear she is already a real wiz at catheters.......no pun intended! So, I am excited for day numbero dos, but sad it's my last with Emsauce.

Neglect

I have totally neglected the blogness. I've been super busy the last week or so. Jared and I had a fantastical time in Las Vegas. We went to Hoover Dam, hit Bass Pro, and even gambled just a smidge....and I mean SMIDGE. We played $5 in penny slots and Jared's very first pull he won $104.50. So, we were already on our way to Benihana for Jared's birthday dinner and the Hilton was nice enough to end up treating us.And, then I had my $1,000 day Mary Kay promotion and had an overwhelming response from my AWESOME friends and customers. I hit my goal and will qualify for early registration for our Seminar in Dallas, TX this summer! My grand total in product sales was $1,449.40! I love doing this soooo much and get such a good response each time, that I think I've really decided to do it every year to show my appreciation to all of you!

Anyway, there will be more to come in the next week! Stay tuned!

Update on the WW Journey......

I realized it's been a few days since I've updated how the whole WW journey is coming for Jared and I. I know, I know, I left you hanging in such suspense. You live and die for my blog updates on weight loss......ooooooooooh, baby! Well, I was down 3 more pounds this week and Jared down 1.5 pounds. He has been on some pretty serious meds for a sinus infection and steroids are known to slow down your weight loss a little, so at least he kept losing.
We are going out to dinner tonight with my parents for Jared's birthday and we're being treated to Carver's....which we can't WAIT for! Jared has never been there, but it's delightful.
I just can't decide between a tasty steak or their ahi tuna appetizer. We have a new found love affair with ahi tuna steaks and tuna sushi. Plus, it's insanely low in points so you can eat about a ton before it starts to matter! Ha ha ha! So, I'm down a total of 17 pounds now and hope to keep on going, baby!!

Well, yesterday/today was the 11th anniversary of my awesome car acrobatics in my 1998 4Runner. Yesterday was the wreck, today was when the story came out in the Herald in Logan. I have this wreck to thank for many things in my life- My crazy mental breakdown over the next year that finally spurred my parents to ship my butt to Steamboat Springs, CO for the Bridgestone winter driving school for one. My 'multiple personalities' that ruled my life for the next year after that while I tried to 'adjust.' But, there were some odd coincidences that I never discovered until later in life as well. The fact that the article about my crash was written by a Pugh....and now I am one. The reason I have now owned 3 different 4Runners and would buy another one in 10 more years. Maybe it's because I feel I was tragically ripped from my first one before I was ready to part with it. And maybe that's why I kept my last one for 11 years....and just bought a brand new one about a month ago. Ha ha ha!
So, this post is for those of you whom I may not have known at that time and never got to 'see the pictures.' Enjoy!

Another one bites the dust......

Another successful week for me and Jare on our 'get healthy' journey. We each lost weight last week, Jared lost 2.5 lbs and I lost 3 lbs. YAHOO! I figure I get to beat him at least one week, right?! So, all in all, it's going well. We're pretty adjusted to the portion control and what items are 'better' things to eat and what keeps us fuller and more satisfied longer. I almost never snack and pretty much stick to my planned out meals and am actually enjoying what I get to eat. Jared and I made chili dogs the other night even, and hot dogs yesterday. I am rediscovering a 'like' for hot dogs because I would RARELY ever eat one. Turns out, they aren't half bad......if you don't boil them.

This one, though, still scares me.........

It was a pretty successful week last week! A fun week for sure! Jared and I headed to Reno, NV for the annual SCI hunting show. I know, I know......you're thinking why do we have to go all the way to Reno for another hunting show? Well, because the ones here, frankly, SUCK in comparison. This is the biggest thing I've ever seen! And it's upscale hunting/sportsman stuff, not like your local gun show or whatever. We had a BLAST cruisin' the booths, talking to outfitters and looking at guns, taxidermy and more taxidermy! The animals were incredible!
Now, the successful part. Neither Jare nor I went over our points the whole week even with eating out almost every meal while we were away. But, I stayed the same and Jare only lost 1 pound, so I think our choices were still different than what we eat at home. We ate less veggies and more pre-prepared things and I think that made a difference. But, once again, I DID NOT go up, so I was happy! Gonna have to kick up the walking/jogging this week to get back on track.

You've got to say, I think that if I keep working at this and want it badly enough I can have it. It's called perseverance.

So, we're officially starting 4 of the great weight loss journey. Jared is down 4 more pounds last week and me, only 2, but I'm happy with that. I was reading that a healthy weight loss rate is about 2 pounds a week. It also helps to reaffirm that you're learning how to alter your eating habits and now just do some crazy quick loss plan that teaches you nothing to keep it off in the future.
This week we are headed to the SCI hunting expo in Reno, NV, so this will be our first real excursion eating almost entirely out of the house. We've learned our favorites at a couple local restaurants we frequent, so this may be a little harder. I'm just promising myself I will not gain weight this week just because we travel. With the crazy new apps and stuff we have on our phones, we have access to pretty much all the info and insider tricks for restaurants we need, so it should be a healthy exercise in reality.
Plus, totally off the subject, I think Jim Shockey is supposed to be there and Jared REALLY wants to meet him. No matter what, it will be fun! Even if I do gain. (But cross your fingers that I don't..........)

Two Tons Down

For this new year, Jared's work is doing a contest for their workforce to lose two tons cumulatively. Well, I've been wanting to do some 'losing' myself, so I joined Weight Watchers at the beginning of January. When Jared's contest started, he decided to join with me so we could do it together and hopefully have better results. I must say that it's been going well and we're eating much differently than we used to. I actually TRY to cook. Ha ha ha!
I figured I would update those bloggers out there every so often about our progress. We are just starting week three (as of Sunday) of our journey and so far Jared is kickin' my butt, as expected. He is already down 13 lbs and I am down 8 lbs. But, I pretty much knew that's how it would go.
We're walking at the Legacy Center at night or down on the Jordan River Trail with our dogs when the weather permits. We like walking outside much more than inside, but sometimes it's just too butt cold out. So, if you ever want to join us for our walks, at either spot, give us a call. We go most week nights so we can play on the weekends!

Both mom and baby are doing well and can't wait to get home to spend the holidays with their growing family and grandma and grandpa Macey! My sister had her baby yesterday! I haven't been able to reach her yet to hear what name they decided on, but both are doing well. He is 21" long and was 7 lbs. 11 oz. Another 'Macey' ginormo baby....okay, so he's not so huge, but not too bad!

PROVO TABERNACLE FIRE

I work in Provo just a couple blocks from the tabernacle and have to go pick up mail at our post office box every day. It took me about an hour to navigate the blocked off streets, find somewhere to park, and walk a couple blocks to the post office. The police and news are using the post office parking lot as their command post pretty much, but I got a great view of the action. There is NO roof left and it was still very much on fire when I was there. The gutters are flooded with water and a reddish clay/sand kind of stuff. I don't know if this is washing off the bricks or whatever the tabernacle is made of, but it's everywhere!

After being EXTREMELY frustrated with my drive home yesterday, an hour and ten minutes from Provo to Lehi, I was not looking forward to my commute this morning. When it took me 40 minutes to get to work, I was already done. Done, done, done for the DAY!!

Then my amazingly talented and awesome friend, Jacque, came in to my office with a little gift for me. She has been blessed with the amazing gift of crocheting (I HOPE that's what you call it) and she made me these. Couldn't have been more perfect for my day and she didn't even know of my 'trials' the last few days! Ha ha ha! THANKS, Jacque!

EASY Halloween Treats are Right Up My Spook Alley

I've been looking at all the cute Halloween treats that grace the internet and thinking of what I could make. I don't bake well and I certainly have limited "decorating" skills when it comes to cookies and such, but I did find SOMETHING I think I can handle. All you have to do is melt chocolate and stick a lollipop stick in a marshmallow. Like I said.......right up my spook alley!Here's how to do it:
For pumpkin marshmallow, insert green gum drop 1 in. from end of lollipop stick for stem. Insert end of stick into marshmallow. Dip marshmallow into melted orange chocolate. (I've seen orange ones of those chocolate Candy Melts for fountains, so that's what I'm going to use.) Let set on parchment paper. (If you've got MAD skills, you can pipe the face on with various things, but I'm not doing any face piping because my skills are not so mad.)

For sprinkle-covered marshmallows, insert marshmallow on end of stick and dip into melted chocolate. Immediately cover with desired sprinkle decorations. Let set on parchment paper.

I know places like Robert's Crafts and Michael's have seasonal sprinkles to make your marshmallows super festive! I bet you can find them at most grocery stores this time of year as well. ENJOY!

We're doing quick facials while you mingle around and enjoy some tasty food and a chocolate fountain! Then we have a rockin' fashion show featuring Nordstrom fashions and jewelry! Then, get the hottest trends for Fall makeup when we demonstrate the cat eye and show you how to be Metro Chic this season! This is going to be a rockin' FUN event! Last weeks party was AWESOME! We're all donating a portion of our profits to the Mary Kay Foundation as we try to raise $1,000. But, the thing I'm most excited about is how party-ish and just plain, ol' fun this is! The "main event" will be a Metro Chic fashion show featuring fashions from Nordstrom. Then we're going to demonstrate on our models how to get the perfect Metro Chic look with your makeup so you'll be right on trend for fall! Plus, we'll have food and chocolate fountains, too! But, probably the coolest part of all is that we're going to hear stories of those affected by cancer or domestic violence so we can all remember what we're doing this for! We're going to take pictures with KISS (ok, a cardboard cut out, but STILL) and we're all going to make KISS cards by signing your name and putting your pucker on it. Then we're stringing them up like garland and sending THEM to Mary Kay Corporate in Dallas, Texas to show our commitment to fundraising for the foundation. Many of the fundraising events are featured in the Mary Kay Applause magazine or on the foundation's Facebook page, etc.
I hope you choose to join us on one of the nights! Even if you can just come by for a little while! There's 2 more evenings to help us reach our $1,000 goal! The event is FREE, but all donations and a portion of sales at the event go to The Mary Kay Foundation!

Villain of the Day

Keeping true to October's festivities, here is the next Villain of the Day. This villain may not be very recognizable to many of you.....he is a little more obscure, yet still one of my very favorite Disney baddies. Meet Chernabog.
Chernabog is a massive, all-powerful demon who appears in the Night on Bald Mountain/Ave Maria, segment of Fantasia. The huge, nocturnal demon is based on the god of the night in Slavonic mythology. Chernabog emerges from the peak of Bald Mountain to summon all of his minions, who dance furiously as he throws them into the mountain’s fiery pit. Chernabog has been praised as Disney’s best representation of pure evil. He is considered one of Disney's most powerful and terrifying villains. In 2008, he ranked as number 1 on critic's Top 11 Greatest Disney Villains list.

KISS For a Cause Parties!

Okay, so the details are pretty much all worked and all I can say is- I AM SOOOO EXCITED! These "parties" are going to be soooo much fun! It's going to definitely be more party than makeup class or anything!

We're going to have a Metro Chic fashion show, finger foods, probably a PINK chocolate fountain, and lip makeovers. We're also going to show step-by-step instructions for color using the new limited-edition line of Mary Kay Metro Chic stuff. Then when you're all made up and your pucker is pretty, we're going to have everyone that comes leave their kiss on a card to decipher their kiss personality. Then we're going to take pictures of all the participants and send them to Mary Kay Corporate in Dallas, Texas to show our commitment to raising money for the Mary Kay Foundation. So, the details, dates and times are below! There are three different nights in October so that we can get as many people as possible to help us meet our $1,000 goal!

Many of you probably know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and also Domestic Violence Awareness month. Probably ALL of us know someone that has been affected by cancer in one way or another. Many of us have lost loved ones to the fight or have been there to support the amazing survivors of cancer.

Some Mary Kay girlfriends and I decided we want to do a little more to give back and help those in the battle of their lives, whether it be due to cancer or due to a tragic domestic violence situation. So, we decided to hold classes devoted to helping The Mary Kay Foundation where funds go directly to shelters, clinics and programs that help fight the cancers that affect women and domestic violence. Many of these shelters and clinics are right here in Utah!

So, we're holding KISS for a Cause classes during the month of October. We're all donating a portion of our profit to the Mary Kay Foundation. We've rented the room in Sandy at our training center, and will be holding classes focusing on lips to raise money.

Details to come! I would LOVE for every one of my customers to join us in the fight and help us raise money for the Foundation!

Lovin' the New Eye Glimmers

I've been playing with some of the new products that we received at Seminar, but have been keeping on the low down.....well, now, our Product Preview is on Tuesday, Sept. 14th so I've been getting more familiar with them.
I have to say that I love, love, love the 3 new Eye Glimmers! They're like eye shadows, but in a "crayon" type form so they're super easy to apply! That's what I love! Plus, they stay put sooooo well! I'm also lovin' the Baked Cheek Powders that work on all skin tones! We were experimenting the other night and seriously both of the shades of the powders work on any skin tone and it's so easy to control the intensity of them!
Plus, there's new lip vinyls (like a gloss), new liquid eyeliner and nail polish is coming back in SUPER HOT Fall shades! So, you've all probably seen via Facebook or the blogaliciousness recently that I'm a busy little bee! Yesterday, I got to go see the Lion King Broadway play with Chaney. She got the tickets for her birthday and I got to be her hot date! It was soooooo amazing! I didn't really think I cared if I saw it or not, but it was AWESOME! Of course, the hyenas and Scar (the villains) were my favorite, but I also love Rafiki. And, you guys have probably noticed that it's hunting season on the Refuge! My bow hunt starts this weekend and I hope I get to let the air out of something! Jared is convinced that I will miss a deer because I haven't shot my bow since Redding in May. I say poppycock!! I've been soooo busy with Mary Kay lately, trying to build my business, that I've had little time for much else. Short term sacrifice for long term gain, right?! Speaking of which, I have really come to realize how much I love my MK business! I get to meet and chill with the awesomest (yes, that's a word) women and just have a good time! They get to try some truly great products for FREE and we get to all pause for a moment and just feel good about ourselves. I know that is, like, SO totally cheese-a-licious, but it's true. I have also made some really great MK friends with my sister consultants in my unit. You really realize how much positivity is missing from the world when you're a part of Mary Kay. I get a dose of positive, loving encouragement every week and you start to realize others don't have that and it kinda makes me sad. So, I'm having a blast just making people feel good! I have to say this is one of my favorite newer Mary Kay products! The Replenishing Serum feels so fresh and makes my skin feel so soft to the touch, but firm at the same time! I especially LOVE the way it smells with all the crazy new Vitamin-C loaded fruits!
I got a dose of enraged skin when I went to Dallas. The humidity didn't sit nicely on my face and I had a few break outs pop up. I'm back! Back from the Big D and ready to paaaartaaaaay! I had one major realization while I was in Dallas......well, okay, two.
#1 that I was trying to be WAY too "perfect" at Mary Kay and at my parties that I think I was making them too class-ish and less party-ish. I've got a re-newed passion to just have more fun, make mistakes, but most of all make the people I come in contact with feel good about themselves and take a break from the "real world" for a few minutes.
#2 that I can spread just a little bit of happiness in this world by helping women truly take a break and look at themselves and like what they see. Regardless of whether I sell a dang thing, I learned I REALLY do enjoy getting together and helping women see how they can look their best on their terms.
So, as scary as this is......I'm vocalizing my BIG DREAMS for this Mary Kay year! It scares the CRAP out of me to say this, so hopefully those of you that love me already will be willing to help and get me where I want to go this year! I have set a monstrous goal for myself and I am already well aware of the fact that I have to overcome shyness to DO THIS THANG, which is something I've struggled with.
My goal is to do 30 faces EVERY month beginning August through December so that I can be a 4 quarter star! Basically that means I need to meet lots and lots of new people....this where the "all you people that already love me" part comes in. I need help giving facials. Easy, simple, fun facials. Weather Report from Dallas

Well, folks.....it's hot and muggy in Dallas today as the clouds have rolled in. Humidity is sitting right around 80%. I don't know if that's high or not for Texas, but it's sure high for a Utah girl. I feel like my face is melting, my clothes are growing and I already need to shower again. Did I mention we've been out of the hotel room for just under 10 minutes?!
